Our Employment Law Services
Settlement Agreements
A settlement agreement is a legally binding agreement setting out the terms agreed upon by an employer and employee to end an employment relationship or resolve a dispute. They typically involve an employee receiving a payment in return for agreeing to give up their right to bring a claim in the Employment Tribunal.
Our employment law specialists have many years of experience of negotiating severance packages and advising on settlement agreements. We will weigh up the offer on the table against the strengths of your case to advise you on whether you have a good deal. If there is a need to negotiate the terms being offered, we can either advise you on the best way to do this or deal directly with your employer on your behalf.
Employment Tribunal Claims
If you are in a dispute with your employer that cannot be resolved through negotiation, our employment solicitors can represent you at all stages of any Employment Tribunal or court proceedings.
We will guide you through the ACAS early conciliation process and represent you if it becomes necessary to commence legal proceedings. Our employment law solicitors will:
- Assess the strength of your case and advise on your prospects of success
- Handle all necessary paperwork and deadlines to ensure a smooth process
- Represent you in negotiations, seeking a fair settlement where possible
Provide expert advocacy at tribunal hearings to ensure that your case is presented in the best possible way
Information on our typical fees for unfair dismissal claims can be found here.
Grievances
If you are having problems at work, often the first step towards protecting your legal position is to draft a clear and robust grievance letter.
Our employment solicitors can help you set out your complaints as effectively and persuasively as possible. Once the grievance process is underway, we will guide you through each stage to help you achieve the outcome that you want.
Redundancy
Being told that your role is at risk of redundancy can be an unsettling and upsetting experience. We can advise you on your rights, as well as make sure that you receive fair treatment and the financial package that you are entitled to.
Restrictive Covenants
If you are thinking about moving to a competitor company, either alone or with colleagues, it is important to have a clear understanding of your legal obligations towards your current employer.
Our employment lawyers can advise you on whether any restrictions in your employment contract are likely to be enforceable by your employer and, if so, whether there are any steps you can take to minimise the risks and the best strategy to adopt to ensure that the move is a success.
TUPE
TUPE is a set of regulations which are designed to provide additional protection for employees when the business they work in changes hands. In summary, TUPE protects you from being dismissed because of a business transfer and gives you the right to be consulted before the transfer goes ahead.
If you are affected by a business transfer, we will advise you on your rights under TUPE and how best to ensure that those rights are upheld.
Discrimination
Our employment law specialists have extensive experience and expertise in helping those who have faced unlawful discrimination at work.
We appreciate just how distressing it can be to be discriminated against. We will be there to support you through the process, and at the same time we will fight to achieve the resolution that you deserve.
Why choose our employment solicitors?
Advising on workplace problems is as much about good judgment as it is about having a detailed knowledge of employment law. It’s about focussing on what’s important and not wasting time and energy arguing over points that don’t matter.
Not only do our employment lawyers have an in-depth legal knowledge, but they also have the experience and expertise to make the right judgment calls that enable you to achieve the best possible outcome. We never lose sight of the fact that what matters is getting the right result.
Sometimes that requires taking firm stance, but on other occasions a more collaborative approach is needed. Ultimately, it’s a question of knowing what approach is most likely to be successful in any given situation. That’s something that only comes from years of experience.
